Philippe André grew up in Brittany then moved to Paris to study music and films. He wanted to become a Music Conductor but graduated with a degree in film instead. While at the Film School, Philippe directed a documentary called “Brackets”, based on the texts of Samuel Beckett and William Burroughs and a documentary entitled “Théâtre Musical de Paris - Châtelet” with Georges Aperghis, Michaël Lonsdale and Boris Kochno. “The festival of contemporary music - La Rochelle “ provided him with the occasion to perform the ‘’Poeme Symphonique for 100 Metronomes ” by Ligeti. Philippe has been graduated writing a memoir about the rythmic connections between Music and Film. Contemporary music is still Philippe’s passion today. Upon graduating, Philippe went to work for the Museum of Modern Art, and The Centre Pompidou - Paris, making documentaries and short films on their many and varied exhibitions: ‘L’époque la mode la morale la passion’, ‘Nouvelles Tendances’, ‘Huit Livres d’Artistes’ , ‘L’image des Mots’ Philippe took part in the launching of a cable TV channel: Planete Cable designing its logos and idents. His idents based on action painting for Paris Première were exhibited at the Galerie Jacques de Vos in Paris. Philippe furthered his film career by transitioning into directing music videos, winning many awards (Victoire de la musique in Paris, Cad’s, Brit’s and Mobo awards in London, German dance awards) and developing his own unique style with his videos. The first music videos he shot in London for the AllSaints became a short film called ‘The Bridge’ released on 250 prints shown in cinemas prior to Tarantino's feature 'Jackie Brown'. He has worked with such artists as Placebo, Roger Sanchez, Morcheeba, Faithless, Dido, Youssou’ n’dour, Texas, Hooverphonic, All Saints, Amina, Emilie Simon, Shakedown, Reminiscent Drive, Zazie, Ute Lemper, Alain Souchon, Alain Chamfort…. Many of Philippe videos have been shown at the American Cinémathèque - Hollywood. Music videos led naturally to commercials, where Philippe’s reputation has grown to one of international renown. His clients include in France: Baume & Mercier, Rodier, Azzaro et Martini, Lacoste, Renault, Peugeot, Veolia, Orange, Nissan. In England : Guinness, Adidas, Samsung, Ford, Haagen Dazs, Santander, Homebase. In USA: Miller Lite, lexmark, AT&T, Barclays, Sharp,Toyota, Nissan, Aviva. His Peugeot 407 ‘’Toys’’ spot won twenty awards around the world, including a Gold Lion at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Winner at The 20th London International Adverttising Awards, and both the ‘’World Medal’’ and "Best Art Direction" at the New York Festival TV Advertising Awards in 2005. Philippe had a full report on CNN news as his 90 seconds Ford spot has been the only one featured during the half time commercial break for the 2007 Champions League final, shown to 80 millions viewers in 18 countries at one time. His ‘’Roboboy’’ spot won a Bronze Lion at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, in 2008. His Orange Spot, 'Words' won Bronze at Epica awards 2010. His Airtel spot 'Endless Goodbye' won a Bronze Lion at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2011. After leaving school Philippe wrote and directed a first short film entitled ‘Le Tourbillon de la Vie’ in homage to François Truffaut, with Philippe Galion, Christine Pallard and Thiery Ravel. In 2005, Philippe wrote and directed ‘The Rope’ starring Natasha Wightman with a music by Max Richter. It was selected by numerous film festivals, including The Los Angeles International Short Film Festival 2005, The New York City Big Apple Film Festival 2005, The San Francisco Independent Film Festival 2006, Paris tout court Film Festival 2007 and screened at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood for the MVPA 8th Annual Director’s Cuts Festival. In 2006 ‘The Rope’ was awarded The 1 Reel Film Festival Jury Prize for Best Narrative Film at the Seattle International Film Festival Philippe is currently in development of a new short film called Delicate Gravity to be shot in Paris in 2012. Philippe has co written in English with Daniel Hainey two feature films: ‘’Orphans‘’ and ‘’Starless’', currently in development Philippe is a member of the DGA (Director’s Guild of America) and is represented in Los Angeles by Jill McElroy at Management 360 and Jeff Gorin at WME2 (William Morris Endeavor Entertainment) .
